The role of visiting staff:

Visiting staff who accompany groups to Nant BH have an important role to play. We will ask you to accompany one of the groups during activities, although don’t worry, we can organise the program so that you are not being asked to do an activity that you would find too intimidating!  Obviously you will know the individuals you bring, and it is important that you can share this information with us to ensure they have a safe and enjoyable time.  This may include medical information, behavioural issues and any other relevant information that could impact on how pupils are likely to react in a new and exciting environment.

During residential courses, as visiting staff, you will be responsible for the pastoral care of pupils during your stay.  Most evenings there will be member of Nant BH staff available to run an evening activity for you but for one evening during each course, you will be on your own.  You may already have plenty of games and ideas to fill the evening, or we can point you in the right direction.

Overnight, there is an on-call system to ensure a member of Nant BH staff is available in emergencies.  Some groups ask about the number of visiting staff for a residential visit – the ideal is 3 for a group of 30 as this allows a member of staff to accompany each activity group during the day, however as a minimum we insist on 2.  You will still need to follow your own LEA / EVC guidelines on ratios and gender.  Visiting staff may be teachers, classroom assistants, youth workers or sometimes parents, but all need to be approved by the school's head teacher and be CRB checked.  You all need to be happy to take on the responsibility of organising the children if a problem occurs.
